If head lights and MagLite are common, the acethylene lamp is the "real" lamp for a "real" "cataphile".

This simple object works with a gas. Commonly used in speleology this lamp is economic and beautiful !
It is made of several parts :
The higher part contains water and a duct (pipe) allows gas to evacuate. This is where the flamme goes.
The lower part is where you put the calcium carbide. When one turns the tap situated on the higher part of the lamp, the water drops in the lower part. The contact of the water on the carbide makes a reaction that produces the acthylene gas.
